Gerbil housing.

In my experience, gerbils are best kept in aquarium tanks than Habitrails, Wire or plastic cages. They tend to chew things most of the time and they will chew away the plastic cages you have for them . For wire cages, they will kicks the bedding out and make a mess!

A 10 gallon tank will do for two gerbils. Its enough for them to run around and play. You can also opt for bigger size if you are keeping more than two or if you plan to breed them.

A secure lid for the tank is very important cos gerbils are great jumper and you do not want them to run away.

Gerbils are less smelly than hamsters, cleaning their cages every 14 days will do.

For the bedding, you can use corn cobs, Living world fresh and comfy bedding,
as pine causes allergies. Fluffy cotton wool are best to be avoided.

Gerbils are not solitary animals and are used to live in large groups. It is best to keep 2 or more . If you dont plan to breed them, you can get same sex gerbils to keep each other company.

It takes time for a gerbil to get to know a new comer so it is wise to slowly introduce them to each other before you actually put them in the same cage. There have been incidents where they fight each other and once wounded, the gerbil will eventually die.
